For more than forty years, I have worked in business, leadership, addiction recovery and alongside people navigating some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Throughout those years, I became fascinated by people.
As a young salesperson, I learned that people rarely tell you the real problem first.
If you listen carefully...
Observe without judgement...
Ask thoughtful questions...
And remain genuinely curious...
People often reveal something much deeper than the problem they first describe.
That lesson stayed with me throughout my career.
Whether I was helping organisations solve business challenges, supporting people through recovery, or working with executives carrying significant responsibility, I noticed something remarkable.
Although every person's circumstances were different, many described remarkably similar emotional patterns.
Pressure that rarely left.
A mind that struggled to switch off.
Recurring stress.
Anxiety.
Emotional burdens they often carried quietly while continuing to perform at a high level.
Over time, I became increasingly curious.
Were these simply individual experiences...
Or were they patterns that others had also recognised?
About fifteen years ago, those observations became the starting point for developing what is now the MindShiftWorks Methodology™.
As the methodology continued to evolve, I began reading more widely across leadership, psychology, behavioural science, neuroscience and emotional wellbeing.
What I discovered was encouraging.
Many of the experiences my clients had been describing for years were also being explored by respected universities, medical organisations and research institutions around the world.
Their research did not create the MindShiftWorks Methodology™.
Nor does it validate it.
What it did provide was confidence that the recurring patterns I had been observing over decades reflected experiences that many researchers had also identified through their own work.
The organisations below have helped deepen our understanding of the journey many successful people travel before they begin looking for a different way forward.
Harvard Business Review has published extensively on executive wellbeing, leadership pressure, burnout, emotional regulation and decision-making.
Common themes include:
Research has explored:
The WHO recognises stress, anxiety and burnout as major contributors to global health challenges.
Their work highlights the importance of recognising emotional wellbeing as part of overall health.
Research has consistently shown that prolonged stress may influence:
Beyond Blue has published extensive work on:
Many of these findings closely mirror the journeys described by our clients before they found MindShiftWorks.
Research focuses on:
Their work reinforces how many successful people continue functioning externally while privately carrying significant emotional distress.
One of the observations that shaped MindShiftWorks™ was that many people already understood what they were experiencing.
They understood:
Yet many still found themselves asking:
"Why do the same patterns keep returning?"
Research across psychology, neuroscience and behavioural science suggests that insight alone does not always produce lasting behavioural change.
This observation closely aligns with one of the questions that ultimately shaped the MindShiftWorks Methodology™.
The organisations listed on this page do not endorse MindShiftWorks™.
Nor are we suggesting that our methodology has been scientifically validated by them.
Rather, their work helped reinforce our understanding that many of the experiences described by our clients reflect broader patterns recognised through decades of research into leadership, emotional wellbeing, stress and human behaviour.
MindShiftWorks™ was developed independently through lived experience, business leadership, recovery, thousands of conversations and more than fifteen years of refining a practical methodology.
